TVNewsCheck has an article out today summarizing the major players in the digital subchannel marketplace. It names ThisTV as the strongest of the subchannels at this point.
Overnight maintenance for KUHT
KUHT has posted on their Facebook:
We will be shutting down our transmitter after midnight for maintenance. (12:30 AM to 5:30 AM). Over the air viewers, AT&T Uverse, DirecTV, and Dish will all lose our signal as they are fed over the air as well. Comcast and Beaumont who are fed by fiber will continue to receive our programming. Wish us luck!
KHOU picks up Bounce TV
Bounce TV, a new digital broadcast network targeted to 25-54–year-old African-American adults, will air on a subchannel of KHOU channel 11 when it launches on September 26.
“Beginning September 26, our network will deliver free programming for our vastly under-served community and be accessible free, to all homes. We look forward to Bounce TV entertaining African American viewers, and frankly all Americans, for many years to come,” said Ambassador Andrew Young, part of Bounce TV’s founding group and board of directors, along with Martin Luther King III.
“Bounce TV is perfect for Houston,” said KHOU-TV President & General Manager Susan McEldoon. “It will provide unique alternative programming for our large African American audience. We look forward to September 26 and becoming the new exclusive home of Bounce TV in Houston.”

SATV gone from 43.5?
So I’m back from my vacation in the land of no subchannels (Canada — their digital transition occurs in August) and I discovered that South Asian TV on KHLM 43.5 has been replaced by another channel airing the same infomercials that are on 43.6, 43.7 and 43.8.
South Asian TV continues to broadcast a live stream on their website.
KTBU sale approved by FCC
The sale of KTBU, channel 55, to Spanish Broadcasting Systems has been approved by the FCC.
