KNWS sale to Una Vez Más finally OKd by FCC

It looks like the sale of KNWS, channel 51, out of Johnson Broadcasting’s bankruptcy to Una Vez Más has finally been approved by the FCC. RBR/TVBR reports that the FCC finally gave its blessings after denying Spanish Broadcasting System’s petition to deny the sale.

Una Vez Más, which is the largest operator of Azteca América affiliates, has already placed Azteca’s signal on channel 51.2. It is also still airing on KUVM-LD channel 10.4; that station, which Una Vez Más used to own, has an agreement to run Azteca programming until September 2012.

The approval finally puts to an end the saga of the long-delayed sale. It also raises questions over the eventual fate of English-language programming on 51.1, as the new owners are sure to move Azteca programs to the main channel.
